Implementing "Appreciation Education"

During my internship, i had successfully carried out my research by focusing on implementing appreciation education strategy in classroom situation. This is to improve the existing teacher-pupils and pupils-pupils relationship in classroom to a more secure boding by helping them to discover their own motivation in learning. According to the teachers in my intern school, strategies that they often use to motivate their pupils include offering incentives and rewards. For example like "If you read a certain number of books you’ll get a prize!" or "Good job, Karen!" only when pupil is performing relentlessly.

I feel that it’s very unusual for teachers to just "give up" on their pupils. Especially with a thought of "They just don’t want to learn!" The original roots of the word "motivation" comes from the word "motive", which meant an inwardly moves a person to behave a certain way." Teacher is actually helping pupils to discover their own motivation. From there, pupils are challenged to act on it.

I deeply believe that if there is only one way on earth to get anybody to do anything, is by making the other person want to do it. For this, pupils will give full cooperation and participate in the learning activities all out of their willingness. According to one of America's most profound philosophers, John Dewey said that the deepest urge in human nature is "the desire to be important".Through my observation, i found out that one of the most neglected virtues of our daily existence is appreciation. Dale Carnegie, is an author of the best book you need to lead you to success, state that honest appreciation got results where criticism and ridicule failed.

Back to my research plan, I have taken necessarily action to make changes in the way i treat and handle my pupils. I cease thinking of my accomplishment, that is to be bonded more closely and strong. For this to happen, i had adjusted myself by continuously reminding myself to see the good side or figure out the other's person's good points, and make a point to praise whenever possible in front of the other people. For me, it was always so easy to be criticism and ridicule under most circumstances. My action plan is eventually a real life challenge overcome in order to reach the expected result. If the analyzed results show no improvement in teacher-pupils and among pupils, therefore i should reflect on my action and performance to find out what really went wrong in the process.
